This set also includes another one of Jad Fair's stellar ballads, "Lucky Ones." Its chiming guitars seem worlds away from the beautiful racket of the early days (when notes were never so specifically employed). There is a clear sense of continuity between HOT and the early work however, attributable to the fact that Jad's personality and world view are so much a part of this band's identity. Fair is never short of believable in anything he sings, and his musical cohorts always fall in step with his distinctive aesthetic.
